Cruze transmission problems (Part 6)

I purchased a used Holden Cruze CDX 2010 (auto transmission) three months ago from a Toyota Dealer. It has only done 71,000km. Last week it stopped reversing. I had it taken to the dealer it purchased it from, and they had it checked over by a Holden dealership to find that "the gearbox is stuffed" and it will cost me $4900 to have this replaced. The Toyota dealer has told me that my statutory warranty is no longer valid and while I am still trying to dispute this with them I don't feel I am going to have much luck, as they don't seem to care at all. I have read on your website that this is a recurring issue for many 2010 Holden Cruzes, and that Holden has been replacing these at its expense quietly. I am hoping you may be able to tell me the best way to approach Holden directly to bring this to their attention and have them fix it, as I am really not in a position to spend $4900 on a car that I paid $12,000 for three months ago.

It's good that a Holden dealer has assessed it. I hope you have a written report from them to say the transmission is stuffed. Get on the phone and call Holden Customer Assistance people (1800 033 349) and register the problem with them, and ask for their help in replacing the transmission. The Cruze's auto transmission is clearly a problem and Holden needs to help people who have spent good money on their cars only to find they've got a fatal flaw.
