Founded over 100 years by Wilhelm Maybach and his son, Karl, Maybach cars were designed to be the epitome of luxury motoring. From 1909 to 1940 they built cars designed to match the highest expectations, they remained a favourite among engineers, designers and car enthusiasts. Interrupted by the war, Maybach never restarted automotive production and after a very long absence they were revived in 1997 by Mercedes and the 62 and 57 were launched. The numbers refer to the length of the wheelbase of each model. The 62 was renowned for the option to place to large reclining airplane style seats in the rear instead of the typical bench seating. While decked in every option available for luxury Maybachs are have a significant amount of power and can accelerate to 100 km/h in a little over 5 seconds, remarkable considering they weight nearly three tons.
