smart

smart (all lower case) is a microcar designed and marketed as a brand of Daimler AG, thirteenth largest car maker in the world and owner of Mercedes and Maybach. The smart fortwo is small car designed for urban and city use, with minimal space apart from the seating for two and the small boot. Designed as a three litre car (3l/100km fuel consumption) it has found favour for it's price, size and simple efficiency. Although currently using a petrol engine, a hybrid and electric version is planned and is scheduled to go on sale in 2010. The smart was also used by some in Japan as the basis for modification, with engines from Hiyabusa super bikes placed in them turning the smart into a small scale drifting machine.
