Subaru Forester 2006: What are the recommended service intervals?

My 2006 Subaru Forester XS has only done 56,000 km and has been serviced on the specified time intervals rather than mileage. But the dealer wants to do the 100,000 km service including belts, etc, which is going to be expensive, and I was wondering if the belts really do wear out over a time period rather than after a certain number of kays. Can I give the dealer a miss and wait till the car has done 100,000 km before shelling out for the belts?

I wouldn’t hold off, the consequences of breaking a belt are too dramatic to risk. Belts do deteriorate over time, that’s why all carmakers that use belts put a time limit on their replacement. It’s to cover owners like yourself so do limited kays. At your current rate the car would be eight years old by the time it reaches 100,000 km, which would be too risky.
