The brand’s local head of communications, Anna Burgdorf, says the current chaos around car pricing – sparked by new Australian Competition and Consumer Commission regulations — will soon evaporate.
“It’s confusing for customers now, but tools are being developed to help them easily work out specific car prices,” Burgdorf says of the regulations demanding that prices must show all costs, duties and charges, some of which vary from one state or even postcode to another .
“Prices will be back on the websites in a couple of weeks.”
Burgdorf says Audi and many other carmakers are building online tools that will allow potential buyers to configure a car price in the same way that some brands allow the selection of options and trim.
The price calculators will allow buyers to arrive at a price based on their postcode, whether or not it’s a business registration, and other determining factors.
But while Audi admits there is uncertainty for the public in the meantime, it says the ACCC regulations will be a benefit.
“Yes, it’s confusing for customers now, and there is a sense of ‘sticker shock’ (at seemingly higher prices),” Burgdorf says.
“But it’s not a price rise, and we just hope customers realise that.
“In the end, the regulations will provide clearer pricing – it’s pricing clarity, which is for the customers’ benefit.”
