Kia Rio Si 2017 review: snapshot

EXPERT RATING
7
The Si is the mid-spec model in the 2017 Kia Rio range

The Si ($21,490) is the mid-spec model in the 2017 Kia Rio range, sitting above the S ($16,990) and below the SLi ($22,990). It’s a one engine, one gearbox offering, available exclusively with a 1.4-litre petrol engine (77kW, 133Nm) paired with a four-speed automatic gearbox.

The mid-range Rio arrives with 15-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs, front fog lights, a chrome surround on the front grille and heated wing mirrors with an integrated indicator. Inside, the Apple CarPlay, Android Auto-equipped seven-inch touchscreen arrives with navigation, while a “premium” (read: chunkier) steering wheel is standard.

Standard safety kit is identical across the Rio range, and includes six airbags (two front, two front sides and two curtain), a reversing camera and rear parking sensors, along with Hill Start Assist, Cornering Brake Control and Straight Line Stability systems as standard. Autonomous braking, however, isn’t available on any Rio in Australia.
