Popular off-roader's price jumps $6600: 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport range ditches 2WD as it targets Ford Everest and Toyota Fortuner

Mitsubishi has axed 2WD variants from its 4WD range.

Mitsubishi has revealed the updated Pajero Sport rugged four-wheel drive that is now available in showrooms.

The Japanese brand has axed two-wheel drive variants from the range, which means the cheapest ticket into a Pajero Sport is now $6600 more than before.

The range now kicks off with the Pajero Sport GLX 4WD five-seater priced at $51,540 (before on-road costs), this is $1600 more than the 2023 version.

It is still cheaper than its closest rivals, the Toyota Fortuner that starts at $53,775, and the Ford Everest, which costs $58,990 for the cheapest 4WD variant.

All variants have had a price hike with the GLS seven-seater up $1700 to $56,890, the Exceed is $1900 more expensive at $62,590 and the range-topping GSR is up $2400 to $64,840.

There is also a GLS Deluxe variant that adds synthetic leather upholstery with grey stitching priced at $59,240.

The refresh brings a range of styling and equipment tweaks across the range.

The Pajero Sport’s braked towing max is 3100kg.

There are new 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear bumper garnishes, upper and lower front grilles and black headlight extensions are now standard across all variants.

Inside, all versions now have a leather-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel borrowed from the new Triton dual-cab ute and adaptive cruise control is included on every variant.

The base GLX scores auto headlights and wipers and the GSR has a two-tone synthetic leather upholstery and dark titanium interior highlights.

The GSR also stands out in the traffic with black exterior mirrors, door handles and tailgate handle.

All variants remain powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that makes 133kW and 430Nm matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

All variants get a new three-spoke steering wheel.

The Pajero Sport has a max braked towing capacity of 3100kg.

This is likely the last update before a new Pajero Sport arrives based on the next-generation Triton dual-cab that launched in Australia earlier this year.

The new Triton packs a more powerful punch with a twin-turbo 2.4-litre diesel engine making 150kW and 470Nm. It also ups the max towing capacity to 3500kg.

This is paired with bold styling and a modern cabin with larger screens and improved safety tech.

There is no timeline yet on the next-generation Pajero Sport but it is likely to follow a year or so after the Triton, which would give it a 2025 launch date.
