Is this GWM's Haval H6 replacement? New B07 EV+ AWD plug-in hybrid SUV revealed with long driving range and huge power to put MG HS PHEV on notice

The B07 is longer, wider and fractionally taller than the current Haval H6.

Codenamed B07, and likely to be called Haval Dragon MAX in China, GWM’s new-generation medium SUV has made its global debut at this year’s Auto Shanghai motor show (April 18–27).

A potential successor to the now three-year old, third-generation Haval H6, the all-new, all-wheel-drive mid-sizer features twin electric motors and an internal-combustion engine, riding on GWM’s Hi4 hybrid architecture to offer plug-in and self-charging functionality.

Combined outputs are 205kW/585Nm, which comfortably exceeds the current 1.5-litre-powered H6 Ultra Hybrid’s 179kW/530Nm.

Claimed economy is 5.5L/100km, pure-electric range is 105km (powered by a 20kWh battery), with the overall (WLTP) figure coming in over 1200km.

Tellingly, that economy figure trails the current H6 hybrid’s combined cycle claim of 5.2L/100km.

However, it seems usability was at the top of GWM’s priority list when developing the B07, the company saying: “We did lots of surveys across different consumers in many countries.

“One of the educational barriers is that most people are just not used to charging their vehicles like their phones. But with the GWM B07 EV+, even when customers forget to charge their cars, they still get the efficiency of a normal unplugged hybrid.

“It’s the most efficient under all working conditions, and worry-free driving under all scenarios.”

The B07 incorporates an ‘Intelligent Cockpit’ system consisting of dual 12.3-inch screens covering multimedia and instrumentation, as well as a 10-inch head-up display.

Inside are two large 12.3-inch screens.

At 4758mm end-to-end, 1895mm across and 1725mm to the roof, the B07 is longer (+105mm), wider (+0.9mm) and fractionally taller (+0.1mm) than the current Haval H6. It’s 2.8m wheelbase also exceeds the H6’s by 62mm.

Boot space is 551 litres (VDA) with all seats upright, which gives ground to the H6’s 600-litre capacity, and available volume increasing to 1377L with the second row folded.

Although there’s no official word on local sale, the car is scheduled to hit Chinese showrooms in May, and CarsGuide understands it is currently under study by GWM Australia New Zealand.
