Stone clatterering Ford Falcon

After owning a VT Calais for eight years my father bought a new FG Falcon G6ET and while he generally loves it there are three things he doesn't like. A farmer, he spends most of his time on dirt roads and has found that the fuel cap does not seal and allows dust into the petrol tank, the rear doors leak dust and finally the car is very noisy on dirt roads due to stone clatter. The fuel cap has been replaced, and the rear doors have been adjusted, but Ford maintains there is nothing that can be done to fix the noise from the stones hitting the underbody. They told us that this is just the nature of the car, but the Calais is markedly quieter in this regard. Have you heard of similar complaints and is there an aftermarket solution to the stone noise/insulation issue?

You can affix insulation material to the inner wheelhouse arches and floor inside the cabin to dull the sound of the stones.
