Compensation for Caddy engine replacement?

Six weeks ago while on the freeway in my 2009 VW Caddy Maxi 1.9TDi, a conrod let go and split the block. The dealer has quoted just under $21,000 for a new engine. After some pushing VW agreed to pay 70 percent, which leaves me over $6000 to pay plus another $2000 for labour to fit it. Should I be able to get compensation from VW for this? Seems pretty steep when it's been dealer serviced all its life and we have gone by the book. I would be glad of your ideas on this.

VW has already come to the party by covering 70 percent of the repairs. That's on a car that is six years old and well out of warranty. I don't think you've got much of a case for more than you've already received.
