Ask Smithy Xtra Another smokey Nissan Navara

I am yet another unhappy owner of a 2009 D22 Nissan Navara driver that is blowing too much smoke on take-off in first and second gear. I know diesel engines put out a bit of smoke, but you know it is a bit too much when cars pull out from behind my car to escape the smoke. Nissan give the standard answer that this is ok and normal, and I know others are getting the same response from Nissan. There is definitely a fault for us all to be experiencing the same problem, but nothing positive is happening and my warranty is running down. What can I do?

Heavy black smoke is normally a sign of over-fuelling. You could try another Nissan dealer, as not all dealers are up to speed on diesels, or go to an independent Nissan service agent, such as Jerry Newman at Cheltenham Service Centre (03 9583 0500).
