How to get into a space 15cm bigger than your car.

If you think parallel parking is boring, see how Chinese expert steerer Han Yue tackles the task of getting into a space just 15cm longer than his car.

He has broken the Guinness world record set just last month by Patrik Folco, whose car was just 22cm shorter than the space he tucked it into.

Han deftly drifted his machine to victory early in the day to break Folco's record with a 21cm difference, then had the organisers keep whittling the gap down until he shaved 7cm off it.

We'd love him to get over here and teach some of our city drivers how to parallel park. Or just how to park properly at any angle for that matter. Getting the whole car in between the lines shouldn't be considered advanced driver training.

Hans' Guinness World Record-winning performance was part of the Beijing launch of a new Mini special edition called The Chinese Job. Good job, that.

  • It might be possible getting out - handbrake full on, lock wheel one way and then gun it. Basically doing a burnout but to one side. The front swings out but the back stays pretty much where it is. Plenty of youtube vides of people doing this.

  • It has the suitable components, the correct quantities, and anything else that you simply could potentially envision for much better results

    JG Posted on 05 June 2012 9:21am
  • Hmm. Are they going to start making Minis in China? Time to dump the Mini if that’s the case.

    Scott H Posted on 05 June 2012 8:21am
  • Who cares how he got out. The story and video were about his parking, nothing more.

Cayce of Brisbane Posted on 05 June 2012 7:25am
  • You can tell from the skid marks just how many times he’s practiced.

An observer of Sydney Posted on 05 June 2012 6:07am

    james Posted on 04 June 2012 8:46pm
  • ...oh dear, most comments here are treating this like it is real life, it was just a driving stunt to get into the Guinness Record book.

There was no actual need to park between the two cars. Ha Ha.

DWSALT of Hobart Posted on 04 June 2012 8:24pm
  • Just a driving trick who cares how he got out or neither legal to park.

AC of Brisbane Posted on 04 June 2012 8:16pm
  • David of Callala Bay, it was a Guiness record attempt with official adjudicators there.. not a magic show. Sheesh..

Marty of Sydney Posted on 04 June 2012 8:03pm

  • Alright, I’m just going to say it…ironic much?

    Tim Posted on 04 June 2012 5:01pm
  • Without the oil that has been strategically placed he wouldn’t be able to do it.. seen it done with no oil and a little wider space between the cars now that’s skill…

    Dazzle Posted on 04 June 2012 4:41pm
  • Experienced drivers should be able to drive the car out from that spot.

Faiz of Sydney Posted on 04 June 2012 4:34pm
  • There should be a record for getting out as well.

Bob Lidd Posted on 04 June 2012 4:27pm
  • I did $10,000 damage to a BMW trying to do this. He makes it look too easy, the idiot.

    Sam Posted on 04 June 2012 4:19pm
  • Awesome! The issue of getting out isn’t relevant to this competition.

    Susan Posted on 04 June 2012 4:19pm
  • I’d be more impressed to see him get out LOL

Charlie Gustavo of Sydeknee Posted on 04 June 2012 3:38pm
  • Love how easy he makes it look!

    Beedee Posted on 04 June 2012 3:32pm
  • I thought it would be ILLEGAL to park this close in an unmarked space.

No Practical Use Posted on 04 June 2012 3:19pm
  • OH HOW WILL he get out from this sticky situation!!!!

Max Richardason Posted on 04 June 2012 3:18pm
  • A lot of haters out there who can’t appreciate an awesome bit of skill. How does he get out? He goes over to the counter and gets the keys to the car in front of him and moves it. Idiots.

Moses Hickory Posted on 04 June 2012 3:18pm
  • I guess repeatedly practicing the manouvre and then parking the two stationary cars there is tantamount to a magician’s illusion. He does it over and over until there is little variance and then park the cars ready for the final take.

David of Callala Bay Posted on 04 June 2012 3:13pm
  • Obviously in real life situations if you know your car can’t get out in a spot you wouldn’t park there. idiots

Kenny of Sydney Posted on 04 June 2012 3:03pm
  • Now i want to see him get the car OUT of the parking space!

Tamsyn of QLD Posted on 04 June 2012 2:53pm
  • fancy - but impractical…
lets see him get back out and drive off…

    boort Posted on 04 June 2012 2:33pm
  • Karla,

As impressive as this is. Please do not use “drift” or “drifting” as a buzz word to attract more views.

This couldn’t be any further away from drifting. Drifting is more than one corner of a course being linked by a car displaying over-steer in a controlled manner.

This is “stunt driving” or “precision driving”, not drifting.

    K Klutke Posted on 04 June 2012 2:26pm
  • Now try and get out smarty pants!

Dexter Abacus of Hurstville Posted on 04 June 2012 2:20pm
  • But how does he get it out without one of the other cars moving first?

Chris McGrath of Brisbane Posted on 04 June 2012 2:16pm
  • Now let’s see him drive out

Kennyc of sydney Posted on 04 June 2012 2:15pm
  • How he just has to get out.

    John Posted on 04 June 2012 2:14pm
  • Sure, but how do you get it out?

Charlie of Chilly Melbourne Posted on 04 June 2012 2:14pm
  • How do you get out of a space 15cm bigger than your car?

MLD of Brisbane Posted on 04 June 2012 2:04pm
  • Nice assist from the wet road.

    Josh Posted on 04 June 2012 2:02pm
  • Now let’s see him get out.

Ben Harris of Melbourne Posted on 04 June 2012 1:38pm
  • Ah, but the rub is how did he get it out again?

stunt driver of drouin Posted on 04 June 2012 1:18pm
  • The drift parallel park is not exactly the appropriate method of showing city drivers how to park. Look at all the room he needed to get there! Not all cars are minis either.

Juliet of Melbourne Posted on 04 June 2012 12:56pm
  • I could imagine the Chinese are used to getting very little things into small spaces.

Well done Posted on 04 June 2012 12:49pm
