2022 Toyota RAV4 detailed! Big update coming for Mazda CX-5, Nissan X-Trail, Subaru Forester, Mitsubishi Outlander and Hyundai Tucson rival

Toyota has detailed the MY22 RAV4 update ahead of its reveal, so here’s an image of the current model instead.

If you’re on the long waiting list for a RAV4, you might want to wait a little longer, as Toyota Australia has detailed – but not revealed – the mid-size SUV’s MY22 update, which is due in showrooms early next year.

Toyota Australia vice-president of sales, marketing and franchise operations Sean Hanley said: “The RAV4's mix of style and practicality, and in particular, its hybrid powertrain, really resonates with buyers, and these upgrades will add to that appeal.

“While these updates won't arrive until early next year, Toyota is committed to keeping its customers aware of upcoming improvements, and we encourage our customers to speak with their preferred Toyota dealer about the upgrade on any orders placed.”

Given the delivery wait time for a RAV4 routinely stretches up to six months (depending on the variant), buyers would have to stay in the queue for at least two or three more months if they want the latest and greatest.

So, what do you get for exercising even more patience? Well, it depends on which variant you opt for, although all of them will get upgraded LED foglights, while hybrid versions will also score redesigned headlights that “enhance night-time vision”, according to the brand.

All petrol variants of the Mazda CX-5, Nissan X-Trail, Subaru Forester, Mitsubishi Outlander and Hyundai Tucson rival will also gain idle-stop functionality, while most versions will roll on new sets of alloy wheels.

Grade-wise, the Cruiser will add three-staged ventilated front seats, an eight-way power-adjustable passenger seat, a digital rearview mirror and illuminated door switches, with the latter feature to also be picked up by the GXL and Edge.

Speaking of the Edge, it will expand its suite of advanced driver-assist systems with active rear cross-traffic alert, meaning it will be able to automatically brake if a collision is imminent while reversing.

Pricing for the updated RAV4 will be released closer to its introduction, but for reference, the current model starts from $32,695 plus on-road costs for the manual GX FWD petrol and tops out at $46,415 for the automatic Cruiser AWD hybrid.
