New Toyota RAV4 2021 pricing and specs detailed: Mazda CX-5 and Hyundai Tucson rival now more expensive

The RAV4 now costs more to buy.

Toyota Australia has increased the pricing of the best-selling new vehicle on the market, the RAV4 mid-size SUV.

All RAV4 variants are now $1300 dearer, meaning the mid-size SUV’s line-up now kicks off from $32,290 plus on-road costs and tops out at $48,790 (see full pricing table below).

A Toyota Australia spokesperson told CarsGuide no changes have been made to the Mazda CX-5 rival’s standard specification, with its price rise instead prompted by “external market forces”, including exchange-rate pressures.

For reference, four grades of the RAV4 are available: entry-level GX, mid-range GXL and Cruiser, and flagship Edge.

Petrol variants of the GX, GXL and Cruiser are motivated by 127kW/203Nm 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, which drives the front wheels.

This unit is mated to a six-speed manual or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) with a mechanical launch gear in the GX, while the GXL and Cruiser are exclusively matched to the latter.

Hybrid versions of the GX, GXL and Cruiser are also on offer, combining a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine running on the Atkinson cycle with one or two electric motors enabling front- or all-wheel drive respectively.

An e-CVT is standard with this ‘self-charging’ petrol-electric hybrid set-up, which has a system power output of 160kW in FWD form or 163kW in AWD guise.

Meanwhile, the Edge goes it alone with a 152kW/243Nm 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, which is teamed with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission and a mechanical AWD system that is front-biased.
