Those looking for an even tougher street presence from a small SUV will be happy to hear Volkswagen has launched a Wolfsburg Edition of its popular T-Roc R which brings unique styling and an Akrapovic exhaust for a more aggressive growl.

The VW T-Roc R is already a beast that combines aggressive looks, a high-out put engine and impressive performance. Now a limited run of just 200 Wolfsburg Editions of the T-Roc R with some tasty enhancements will be released into Australia.

The T-Roc R Wolfsburg Edition lists for $69,290 which is $4300 more than the regular T-Roc R. Distinguishing the Wolfsburg Edition from the regular version is Iridium Grey matte paint, 19-inch Pretoria Dark Graphite alloys wheels, black roof rails, black mirror caps, black lower radiator trim, carbon-look C-pillars, plus gloss black trim elements in the cabin.

Also standard on the T-Roc R Wolfsburg Edition is an Akropovič titanium exhaust system which is not only lighter but produces an even more appealing note.

Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles Head of Marketing and Product Nathan Johnson, said the Wolfsburg edition is the T-Roc in its ultimate form.

“Australia is a very significant market globally for T-Roc R and now the Wolfsburg Edition gives Australian customers the opportunity to own the definitive version of the ultimate T-Roc,” Mr Johnson said.

“Performance has always been a strength of T-Roc R and the unique matte paint and Akrapovič titanium exhaust system further elevate it to where it now looks and sounds its absolute best.”

The output of the T-Roc R Wolfsburg Edition four-cylinder turbo petrol engine remains the same as the regular version at 221kW and 400Nm. While VW doesn’t give a 0-100km/h sprint time for the Wolfsburg Edition, the T-Roc R has an official time of 4.9 seconds.

As with the regular T-Roc Rs the Wolfsburg Edition is all-wheel drive and has a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The rest of the Wolfsburg Edition features mirror those of the T-Roc R and includes blue brake callipers, R exterior styling, Matrix LED headlights, privacy glass, and proximity unlocking. Also standard is dual-zone climate control, nappa leather upholstery, a 9.2-inch media display with sat nav, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, and heated sports seats up front with the driver’s being power adjustable.

The T-Roc was a close second in 2024 in VW's Australian best-sellers, only beaten by the Amarok ute.

Named after the German city where VW is headquartered, Wolfsburg Editions have been added to the brand’s cars since the 1980s. Australia has seen Wolfsburg Editions of the Touareg large SUV, the Golf R hatch, and the Tiguan medium sized SUV.

Out of boredom, she learnt to drive at 14 on her parents’ bush property in what can only be described as a heavily modified Toyota LandCruiser.   At the age of 17 she was told she couldn’t have a V8 Holden ute by her mother, which led to Laura and her father laying in the driveway for three months building a six-cylinder ute with more horsepower than a V8.   Since then she’s only ever owned V8s, with a Ford Falcon XW and a Holden Monaro CV8 part of her collection over the years.  Laura has authored two books and worked as a journalist writing about science, cars, music, TV, cars, art, food, cars, finance, architecture, theatre, cars, film and cars.
