VW Amarok Canyon 2020 pricing and spec confirmed

Off the back of strong sales, Volkswagen expands is V6 Amarok dual-cab family.

Volkswagen has confirmed pricing and spec for its Canyon special edition Amarok dual-cab ute.

The limited-run Canyon has appeared before, being released back in 2014 as a four-cylinder with just 200 units built.

The new Canyon for the 2020 model year is, for the first time, offered with the brand’s 165kW/550Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 mated to an eight-speed ZF torque converter automatic transmission, and this time around it will be limited to 350 units.

The Canyon edition spec list is made up of a unique leather seat trim, dark tinting on the tail lights, 17-inch alloy wheels with a design unique to this special edition, bi-xenon headlights usually reserved for higher spec levels, and a Canyon decal pack.

The Canyon is available in three of the standard colours, although when chosen in its signature tone of ‘Outback Orange’ it also comes with contrast black guards over the wheel-arches.

Standard specification includes the Amarok V6’s 6.33-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, as well as climate control, a leather-bound steering wheel, and a multifunction display in the dash.

The Canyon will wear an MSRP of $57,990.

The Canyon gets a unique leather interior treatment alongside its exterior aesthetic touches.

The Canyon is one part of a Volkswagen V6 family expansion, which also includes a base-model Core manual arriving in December, and the addition of the once-limited edition Highline 580 Black as a permanent part of the range.

The Highline 580 Black is priced from $64,990 and is the cheapest way in the Volkswagen Group to get the V6 engine in 190kW/580Nm tune.

It comes with a slew of aesthetic ‘black pack’ upgrades as well as unique alloy wheels, side bars and a sports bar as standard. Unlike the Canyon, the Highline 580 Black ships with cloth seats as standard.

The range expansion reflects strong sales in Australia, where VW says V6 variants now make up 80 per cent of its sales mix.
