2021 Volkswagen Amarok V6 580SE pricing and specs detailed: Australia's most powerful dual-cab ute scores special edition treatment

Powering the Amarok V6 580SE is a potent 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine with 190kW/580Nm.

Volkswagen Australia will roll-out a new variant of its V6-powered Amarok ute in December this year, which will be limited to just 200 units priced at $67,490 before on-road costs.

Dubbed the 580SE (for special edition), the new Amarok is based on the Highline grade but scores a number of equipment additions to justify the jump in price from $61,990.

For starters, the 580SE scores the 20-inch gloss-black wheels of the Highline Black, replacing the 18-inch wheels of the Highline, and dark-coloured side steps.

The stainless steel sportsbar is also swapped out for a moulded version finished in the same colour as the exterior, which can be had in white, grey or black.

Inside, the 580SE is fitted with Art Velour-trimmed seats with heating for the front occupants, as well as a black headliner and pillars, and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Carryover equipment includes bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, black-coloured electronically adjustable side mirrors, chrome front grille, extended and body-coloured wheelarches, front and rear mudflaps, dual-zone climate control, and multi-function driver display.

Handling multimedia duties is a 6.3-inch Discover Media colour touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality, satellite navigation, voice controls and Bluetooth connectivity.

For safety, the 580SE is fitted with front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, automatic headlights and wipers, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Optional equipment includes 14-way adjustable electric seats finished in Vienna leather with heating for an additional $3790.

Powering the 580SE is Volkswagen’s punchy 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6, which outputs 190kW (200kW on overboost) of power and 580Nm of torque – making it the highest output dual-cab ute on the market.

The engine is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends drive to the road via Volkswagen’s 4Motion four-wheel-drive (4WD) system.

Fuel consumption is pegged at 8.9 litres per 100km, while the Amarok 580SE needs just 7.3 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100km/h.

The gutsy engine also affords VW’s latest dual-cab ute with a 3500kg braked towing capacity.

As with all new Volkswagen Australia vehicles, the Amarok V6 580SE comes with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.
