The RAM 1500, 2500 and 3500 have all been hit with a recall.
According to the Australian government’s recall notice, 313 vehicles sold between 2023 and 2024 were built with a manufacturing defect that may inhibit the driver’s airbag from deploying.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) may have not been welded to the required specifications. As a result, the SCCM could fail to send an airbag deployment signal to the Occupant Restraint Controller preventing the driver's airbag from deploying,” the notice reads.
“In the event of an accident, the airbag not deploying as intended could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.”
RAM sold 4,534 cars in Australia in 2023, so the recall notice is only projected to impact a small portion of vehicles.
If your vehicle is impacted by the defect, the Australian government encourages owners to contact their nearest authorised RAM dealer to have their SCCM inspected and replaced, free of charge.
Owners of the 1500 (DS), 2500 and 3500 can check their vehicle’s VIN number on the Australian government’s recall website by clicking the link here, while owners of the 1500 (DT) can click here.
Alternatively, RAM Australia will contact owners in writing.
