New Honda Civic 2021 pricing detailed: Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla rival now costs more

Most of the Civic’s variants are now more expensive.

Honda Australia has increased the pricing of most of the MY20 Civic small car’s variants.

The entry-level VTi and flagship Type R grades are unchanged – meaning the Civic range still starts from $22,590 and reaches $51,990 plus on-road costs – but the VTi-S, VTi-L, RS and VTi-LX versions are all up $500 (see full pricing table below).

A Honda Australia spokesperson told CarsGuide no changes have been made to the Toyota Corolla and Mazda3 rival’s standard specification.

“In recent months, the effect of exchange-rate fluctuations, impact of COVID-19 and competitor activity have all necessitated price changes across a number of model lines,” they said.

“Despite challenging conditions with the Australian dollar over the past few years, for the most part, Honda Australia has absorbed those influences and maintained very stable pricing right across the vehicle range.”

For reference, with the exception of the hatchback-only Type R, all Civic grades are available in sedan and hatchback body-styles, with the latter commanding a $200 (VTi, VTi-S, VTi-L and VTi-LX) or $700 (RS) premium.

VTi and VTi-S variants are motivated by a 104kW/174Nm 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, while VTi-L, RS and VTi-LX versions upgrade to a 127kW/220Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged unit.

Either way, they’re mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), which exclusively sends drive to the front wheels.

Meanwhile, the Type R asserts itself with a 228kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, which is matched to a six-speed manual.
