Widely regarded as one of the most sonorous production cars ever made, the shatteringly fast, V10-powered LFA broke new ground for the Lexus brand.
And with the two-seat supercar’s limited run of 500 coupes and two spiders ending more than a decade ago, the prospect of a second-generation version has been exciting performance car enthusiasts in recent years.
Now reports out of Japan have put prospective power, price and production timing for the new car on the table as well as the possibility of it leaving the Lexus premium stable and landing in showrooms as the GR Super Sport.
Already, the Toyota GR GT3 customer competition car is confirmed for a 2026 race debut with regular prototype testing at the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium and the Fuji Speedway in Japan.
Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda has been a long-standing champion for performance-focused Lexus and Toyota models, establishing GR (Gazoo Racing) to cover the latter’s motorsport activity and hi-po production cars.
And at the unveiling of an initial concept version of the GR GT3 at the Tokyo Auto Salon in 2022, Toyota Racing Development President David Wilson confirmed a link between the track-only car and a future Lexus model.

With camouflaged pre-production prototypes of a rear wingless, more LFA-like production car now caught in the wild on multiple occasions that prediction looks to be close to a showroom reality.
According to sources referenced in BestCarWeb overnight the LFA replacement is scheduled to begin production mid-year for release in the fourth quarter, with a domestic market price of around $A315,000… and a GR nameplate.
And rather than a pure-electric powertrain, as hinted at by 2023’s Lexus Electrified Sport Concept, it’s destined to follow the same front (internal-combustion) engine, rear transaxle, rear-drive configuration as its LFA predecessor.

The GR Super Sport replaces the previous V10 with a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 multi-stage hybrid powertrain producing a combined 670kW (537kW for the engine alone).
Where the original LFA boasted a full carbon-fibre monocoque with aluminium sub-frames front and rear, its successor is set to be underpinned by an alloy chassis topped with carbon bodywork.
BestCarWeb has also locked down the GR Super Sport’s dimension, projecting an overall length of 4600mm, width of 1950mm and height of just 1200mm.

And rather than a limited edition, this time around the ‘LFA II’ will be released as a “catalogue model” for on-going availability.
