2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Adventure: A uniquely Australian long-wheelbase Tiguan with just five seats?

The Tiguan Allspace Adventure is a spec unique to the Australian market with a huge boot, big engine, and small wheels.

The seven-seat, long-wheelbase Tiguan Allspace is set to arrive in freshly facelifted form in June of this year, but Volkswagen has revealed a unique special edition will join the range later in August.

The Tiguan Allspace Adventure is notable as it is a five-seat version of the Allspace, boosting boot capacity to a segment-leading 760-litres (VDA). It also packs the higher-grade 162TSI 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine driving a peak of 162kW/350Nm to all four wheels.

At $51,990 before on-road costs, it is the most affordable Tiguan Allspace with this engine by $5000. Other bonus features VW throws in on the Adventure include a 180-amp alternator “ideal for accommodating the use of camping accessories”, underbody guard with stone protection, tyre pressure monitoring and smaller 17-inch alloys to improve ride comfort, as well as the progressive steering and sport suspension from higher grades.

Other standard equipment includes tinted windows, heated front seats, tri-zone climate control, LED headlights and taillights, auto-folding rear vision mirrors, an 8.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, built-in nav and the full 10.25-inch digital dash cluster. The Adventure has cloth rather than leather seat trim.

Buyers can also choose one of three accessory packs at no extra cost: Snow chains and all-weather floor mats, sun blinds for the front and rear windows with floor mats, or a hard-wearing boot liner, load protector and all-weather floor mats.

Like all Tiguans, the Allspace Adventure comes with the full ‘IQ Drive’ safety suite including auto emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, and driver attention alert.

VW promises ample initial supply of Allspace variants.

The Adventure variant is said to be an Australian-market exclusive, and VW says there will be ample supply for buyers, with 1000 initial units earmarked. Unlike the regular five-seat Tiguan which is sourced from Germany, Allspace variants are built in Mexico, which the brand said is beneficial for its overall supply levels, an issue which is affecting much of the market.

Supply issues have had their effect on the VW passenger car range in recent months, with rounds of price-rises across its most popular models, and wait times for some Tiguan variants reaching into Q1 of 2023. Despite ongoing supply and price issues, the Tiguan range has been significantly fleshed-out in recent months, with the Allspace variants joining the sought-after high-performance R model earlier this year.
