Factory full of shiny Carrera Cup cars? Yes please

By Joel StricklandJoel Strickland

A warehouse full with twenty-five brand spankin' new Porsche GT3 cars.

That’s what the Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia Team recently had on their hands, as the new 991 911 GT3 Cup race cars had all been recently unloaded from their containers. They joined the example which has been in the country since the middle of 2017.

The cars have already begun to head out to their new homes for the upcoming 2018 season, with Cameron Hill from Canberra the first to take delivery.

The second-generation 991 Carrera Cup car has improved over the previous version in 4 different areas, power, safety, aerodynamics and longevity.

The new naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine moves from 3.8 to 4.0 litres and provides 25 more horsepower – from 338 kW (460 hp) to 357 kW (485 hp) at 7,500 rpm. The engine & transmission allows for longer (double previous model) rebuild times.

The new front and rear aprons give a more angular appearance with improved aerodynamics.

The roof hatch has been enlarged  to allow for easier access to drivers in case of an accident. The 911 GT3 bodyshell of aluminium and steel hybrid construction makes this 2018 generation race car the safest yet.

We look forward to seeing all 26 cars on the grid at the first round of the 2018 Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia at the Adelaide 500 in March.
