Volkswagen Touareg Wolfsburg Edition 2016 | new car sales price

VW Touareg Wolfsburg special edition brings bespoke trim and details for not much extra.

It may be built in Slovakia, but Volkswagen has named its upcoming special edition Touareg after the brand’s headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany.

Following on from the Golf R Wolfsburg models of 2015, the unique Touareg will add some zest to the large SUV that’s well into its twilight.

Based on the existing mid-spec V6 TDI model with a 180kW/550Nm 3.0-litre V7 turbodiesel engine, the Touareg Wolfsburg Edition will be identified by black 20-inch Mallory alloy wheels, rear spoiler and dark tinted LED taillights. Exterior colours will be limited to Reef Blue, Pure White and Canyon Grey.

The inside will be a bit more swish though, with diamond-stitched Nappa leather trim, heated and ventilated front seats, dark wood inserts, heated steering wheel and ambient lighting.

On the safety front, the Wolfsburg will come standard with active cruise control, city AEB and forward collision alert.

These extras may not come free, but will be packaged for just an extra $7000 from the regular V6 TDI at $88,990.

The Touareg Wolfsburg Edition is set to appear in Australian showrooms from September.

Back when all cars burned fuel and couldn't drive themselves, Mal was curing boredom by scanning every car his parents' VB Commodore drove past. His childhood appreciation for the car world exploded during a three-year stint in the US, and serious questions were asked when he spent a good chunk of his uni career perfecting lap times at Wakefield Park. Mal got his big break scooping the VE II Commodore, before a stint at Overlander magazine and kicking off his online career with The Motor Report in its heyday. These days he's exactly the same height as Michael Schumacher and uses his powers for good at the helm of CarsGuide's editorial team. Mal proudly shuns brand allegiance and counts three young kids, an EH Holden, NA MX-5, KE20 Corolla, W116 Mercedes-Benz and the world's most versatile Toyota Echo among his personal stable. He also craves a Subaru Vortex, so get in touch if you know where to find one.
