BMW Australia has confirmed it has secured a small allocation of First Edition variants based on the recently launched X5 and X6 M Competition large SUVs.
Only four examples will head Down Under in the first quarter of next year, split evenly between the wagon and ‘coupe’.
Pricing will be released closer to the First Editions’ arrival, but expect them to command a premium over the $209,900 (plus on-road costs) X5 and $213,900 X6 M Competition.
For their extra spend, buyers will get exclusive colour combinations, including the choice of Frozen Dark Silver or Frozen Marina Bay Blue matte paintwork, as well as standard Jet Black 21-inch front and 22-inch alloy wheels, and carbon-fibre exterior trim.
Inside, full Silverstone/Midnight Blue Merino leather upholstery is used liberally throughout, including on the multifunction front seats, which also have Alcantara inserts and Sakhir Orange contrast stitching, a pop of colour that also appears on the dashboard and doors.
A Midnight Blue Alcantara headliner also features in the interior alongside carbon-fibre trim, which around the centre stack has ‘First Edition 1/250’ and ‘X5/X6 M Competition’ lettering.
The Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S wagon and coupe rivals are motivated by a 460kW/750Nm 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that’s mated to an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission and BMW’s M xDrive rear-biased all-wheel-drive system.
This combination helps the X5 and X6 M Competition sprint from a standstill to 100km/h in a supercar-scaring 3.8 seconds.
For reference, 500 examples of the First Edition will be produced for global consumption, split evenly between the X5 and X6, and locally they’ll only be available to pre-order online.
