I bought a used 2010 Hyundai ix35 diesel from a dealership in St Mary's. Before paying for it they verbally told me that it does not come with a warranty, but I could purchase a warranty for an extra $2000, which would cover me for a year. I declined the offer for warranty, but now only six months after purchasing the car it is sitting in the mechanic’s who is puzzled as to why it won’t start. It’s beginning to cost me more and more as they replace one thing after another to figure out what the problem is. A colleague of mine from work told me that even though I did not purchase warranty I should be covered by some sort as I have only had the car for 6 months? Just wondering if there is any truth to this.
All non-commercial used cars sold in New South Wales are by law meant to have a warranty of 3 months/5000 km if they are less than 10 years old and have done less than 160,000 km. But even if it met those criteria you have had the car for six months and the warranty would have expired.
