Jeep is known as an SUV specialist brand, even before SUVs became the new hot thing.

And with hybrids and electrified models now becoming the norm, Jeep will move into the fuel-sipping space with its own Compass e-Hybrid model.

Aimed at the likes of the Nissan Qashqai e-Power and Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV, the Compass e-Hybrid promises to combine 'go anywhere' capability with fuel-saving 48-volt mild-hybrid technology.

02. Chery Tiggo 8 Pro - May

Chery's rebirth in the Australian market came with 2023's Omoda 5 and was followed by the Tiggo 7 Pro mid-size SUV.

But the third model to join Chery Australia's line-up will be the Tiggo 8 Pro three-row SUV, aimed to steal the thunder away from the Nissan X-Trail, Mitsubishi Outlander and Honda CR-V.

Expect a loaded equipment list and a low entry point - characteristics that are synonymous with the reborn Chery brand.

03. Hyundai Santa Fe - June

With a ground-up new design, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe certainly won't be confused with the outgoing model.

Ditching the smooth, rounded lines of the past for a boxier, upright and downright rugged aesthetic, the new Santa Fe could very well lure buyers away from the top-selling Toyota Prado.

Initially it will come with 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid only for Australia.

04. Hyundai Ioniq 7 - H2

Though the Ioniq 7 all-electric SUV is yet to break cover in production guise at the time of writing, we already know it will share similarities with its Kia EV9 cousin.

Styling will borrow heavily from the Seven Concept shown at 2021's LA motor show, and will be in line with the futuristic, cutting-edge look of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.

Expect a single motor that drives the rear wheels in the base variants, while a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive set-up will likely sit as the flagship of the Ioniq 7 range.

05. Hyundai Tucson Hybrid - Mid-2024

Not content to let the Toyota RAV4 hog the limelight, the Tucson Hybrid is due in mid-2024.

Taking the already successful current-generation Tucson formula, but twisting it with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol and electric motor hybrid means the new mid-size SUV promises to be both stylish and frugal.

Hyundai has confirmed that it will offer up to three trim levels, including an N-Line styling pack.

06. Kia Sportage Hybrid - March

Sick of waiting for a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid? Well Kia has an alternative in the form of the Sportage Hybrid, which went on sale in March.

Pairing a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor should also prove to be both punchy and frugal for the new mid-size SUV.

It is available in two model grades: mid-spec SX and range-topping GT-Line.

07. Range Rover - Q1

A model-year 2024 refresh is due for the Range Rover large luxury SUV line-up in the first quarter of 2024.

Headlining the changes is a new SV variant with a more potent 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 that now punches out 454kW/750Nm.

Across the line-up, there is also an updated 13.1-inch multimedia touchscreen system, as well as tweaks to safety equipment and the removal of the P400 powertrain.

08. Range Rover Sport - Q1

Sitting atop the MY24 Range Rover Sport is a new SVR grade that produces a mighty 467kW from a 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V8.

09. Range Rover Evoque - January

If Porche's Macan is a little too common and the Volvo XC60 too quirky, maybe the 2024 Range Rover Evoque is the right fit for you?

New to the 2024 line-up is a fresh face and updated cabin with 11.4-inch curved glass multimedia touchscreen.

However, the top-spec Autobiography grades are now offered with two petrol powertrain options - a P250 or the P300e plug-in hybrid.

10. Land Rover Discovery Sport - January

Topping the model-year 2024 Land Rover Discovery Sport line-up is a plug-in hybrid powertrain that comes in at just over $100,000 before on-road costs.

However, the rest of the Discovery Sport range also scores some changes, namely the new 11.4-inch Pivi Pro multimedia touchscreen system that is now curved.

The other two variants of the Discovery Sport line-up includes the entry-level P250 SE and the mid-spec P250 HSE.

11. Mazda CX-80 - Late 2024

Following the CX-60 and CX-90 to Australian showrooms will be the Mazda CX-80.

The CX-80 is a seven-seat version of the CX-60, giving buyers a more affordable alternative to the larger CX-90.

Powertrain options will match the CX-60 with a petrol and diesel inline six-cylinder engine and a plug-in hybrid option.

12. Mazda CX-90 PHEV - Late 2024

If you thought the Mazda CX-90 was already expensive with a petrol or diesel engine, prepare to be bowled over by the price tag of the plug-in hybrid option.

Official pricing is yet to be revealed, but it will likely be Mazda Australia's most expensive model and sail past the $100,000 mark.

You will get a luxurious three-row SUV though, with the ability to travel on electric-only power depending on your situation.

13. Polestar 3 - Mid-2024

With just a single model in Australia, Polestar has already managed to draw attention to itself, so what can it do with another all-electric offering?

The Polestar 3 is set to launch in the large SUV space making it more appealing to most than the hatchback-like Polestar 2, but the latest model also has premium aspirations.

This means pricing kicks off from $132,900 before on-road costs for the Polestar 3, but with a driving range of up to 610km, range anxiety shouldn't be a problem.

14. Volvo EX90 - Late 2024

It's almost time to say goodbye to the XC90 and hello to the Volvo EX90.

Boasting an all-electric drivetrain and large SUV dimensions, the EX90 marks Volvo Australia's commitment to ditch its petrol engine line-up by 2026.

Local details are to be confirmed, but overseas models can be equipped with a potent 380kW/910Nm dual-motor set-up.

15. Audi Q8 50 e-tron - H1

Though the Q8 e-tron name might be new, the revised and rechristened e-tron will be familiar to Audi EV fans.

The 55 variant will enter local showrooms before the end of 2023, but the more affordable 50 versions will land in the first half of 2024.

New styling and an updated interior are highlights for the 2024 Q8 50 e-tron, but pricing and full specifications are yet to be locked in.

16. Volkswagen Touareg - April

A new version of Volkswagen's flagship Touareg large SUV will land in Australia in April.

The facelift brings with it new looks, as well as cutting-edge tech such as a night vision camera and roof load sensor.

Topping the 2024 Touareg will be the performance-focused hybrid R that uses a plug-in hybrid set-up to make 340kW and 700Nm.

17. Skoda Kodiaq - Late 2024

The second-generation Kodiaq has grown in size to liberate more interior space for passengers and cargo.

Styling is also sleeker than before for the large SUV, with a late 2024 arrival earmarked for the Skoda model.

Australia will miss out on diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains, but gets a 150kW/320Nm 2.0-litre petrol option.

18. Volkswagen ID.4 - Mid-2024

Volkswagen Australia's first all-electric model to touch down in local showrooms will be the ID.4 mid-size SUV.

It launches mid-year, and will compete against the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Toyota bZ4X and others in the popular segment.

However, as an all-electric model, don't expect it to be as affordable as something like a Toyota RAV4 or Mazda CX-5.

19. Skoda Enyaq - Late 2024

With Volkswagen pushing into the electric space in 2024, Skoda will also follow with its own MEB-based model, the Enyaq.

As a mid-size SUV, the Skoda Enyaq will have a broad customer base, but key to its success will be pricing and spec - both of which are not confirmed at the time of writing.

However, its large 82kWh battery will enable a driving range of 570km, so range anxiety shouldn't be a problem.

20. Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV - H2

If a Mercedes-Benz EQS wasn't quite fancy enough for you, the Maybach version should fit the bill.

Based on the EQS electric SUV, the Maybach version scores unique wheels, a new grille and two-tone paintwork.

As a battery electric vehicle, the Maybach EQS produces 484kW/950Nm and can travel up to 600km on a full charge.

21. Kia Sorento - January

The facelifted Kia Sorento now has pricing confirmed for Australia, starting from $50,680 before on-road costs in petrol 'S' guise or $53,680 for the diesel equivalent.

The two launch drivetrains remain the same, a 3.5-litre V6 making 200kW and 332Nm driving the front wheels and a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel good for 148kW but a beefier 440Nm of torque.

Kia Australia says hybrid and plug-in variants will follow in the first half of 2024, using the existing 1.6-litre petrol engine and making 169kW in hybrid form and 195kW in plug-in hybrid guise.

22. Kia EV5 - June

Kia's new mid-size electric SUV will arrive in June and prices are expected to start from less than $60,000 and undercut the cheapest Tesla Model Y.

The EV5 has similar styling inside and out to the larger EV9 electric SUV. It has some cool features such as a centre console that can act as a bench seat when the car is parked.

The car will be built in China, which will ensure good supply for Australia.

23. Subaru Solterra - March

Subaru's first electric, the Solterra, went on sale in March with prices starting at $69,990 before on-road costs for its base model, offered only in all-wheel drive. The Solterra was co-developed with the Toyota bZ4X.

With a 71.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Solterra is claimed to boast a WLTP-certified driving range of 414km, with total outputs of 160kW and 337Nm from its dual-motor setup.

‘X-Mode’ all-wheel-drive control software will differentiate it from the bZ4X, the brand says, while 210mm of ground clearance aims to keep the Subaru faithful to its practical adventure heritage.

24. Genesis GV80 - April

Alongside a mid-life update for the GV80 large SUV, Genesis will for the 2024 model year introduce a Coupe version with a 'swoopy' rear in the same fashion as many of its German rivals like the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe.

Pricing for the update and new variant is yet to be confirmed, with the current model of the SUV costing $105,700 or $110,200 before on-road costs for its two variants.

The updated GV80 will only use a 3.5-litre turbo petrol V6 that makes 279kW/530Nm.

Changes to the model include a redesigned grille, headlights, front air intakes and new chrome trim, while inside the gear shifter, device charging pad and console have been redesigned.

25. Mazda CX-70 - Late 2024

Mazda is going all in on its range of large premium SUVs. The CX-70 is the fourth model in its growing Australian line-up.

It is a five seat version of the large CX-90 that was launched locally in 2023.

Mazda is likely to follow the same path as the seven-seat CX-90 and fit its new inline six-cylinder turbocharger diesel and petrol engines to the CX-70.

26. Porsche Macan Electric - Late 2024

Porsche is closing orders for its petrol-powered Macan in May in preparation for the arrival of its all-electric SUV later this year.

This new electric Macan will be available with a variety of drivetrains producing up to 470kW/1130Nm and has a 100kWh battery.

This means range in excess of 500km regardless of variant, and a fast charging capability of 270kW for charging times from 10 to 80 per cent of just 21 minutes.

27. Toyota bZ4X - February

Though Toyota's first all-electric model was due to launch in 2023, delay after delay means saw it land in local showrooms in February 2024.

As a mid-size SUV-like model, the bZ4X will compete against the popular Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Pricing starts from $66,000 for front-wheel drive models. Four-wheel drive is available and the bZ4X touts between 411-436km of driving range.

28. Jaecoo J7 - H2

Chinese brand Chery is preparing to launch its focused Jaecoo sub-brand in Australia.

Leading the charge is the J7, a mid-size SUV that brings Range-Rover-like styling and a swag of high-end goodies as standard.

The J7 Australia will see is likely to be powered by the same 145kW/290Nm 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine found in the Tiggo 7 Pro.

29. Zeekr X - Late 2024

Zeekr is a new Chinese car brand from the giant Geely group that also owns Volvo.

The X borrows much of its underpinnings from the Volvo XC40 and is expected to hit showrooms late in 2024.

Australians can expect dual motor performance delivering 315kW/543Nm and a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration in 3.7 seconds. It is expected to have a driving range up to 560km.
