2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan confirmed for Australia

Hyundai will add the new Genesis sedan to its Australian lineup after October, with the new second-generation model hoping to cash in on the Korean brand’s growing status on our shores. 

The new Genesis sedan received its first public showing at the Detroit motor show today, and the large car continues to defy convention by offering a native rear-wheel drive layout and north-south engine arrangement.

The sedan will be joined by the upcoming Genesis coupe on the Australian market, but the timing of two-door’s local arrival is yet to be announced.  

Australian Genesis sedans will be fitted with the 248kW 3.8-litre Lambda petrol V6, driving the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, with the 5.0-litre V8 and all-wheel drive available overseas limited to left-hand drive.

The new model promises to offer the brand’s highest levels of quality, technology and dynamic ability yet, and will also benefit from suspension tuning from Hyundai Australia’s local engineering team.

Compared with the previous model that was never offered in right-hand drive, the new sedan benefits from a redesigned multi-link rear suspension, 37.7 per cent stiffer chassis due to greater use of high-strength steel.

Features will include the i-Driving Mode Integrated Control, and a choice of four driving modes. Safety kit will include Smart Cruise Control, blind-spot detection with heads-up display, lane-keeping assist and departure warning, and a 9.2-inch high-definition touscreen interface.

"Genesis is the Hyundai brand's flagship car globally and we are delighted that for the first time, it will be engineered in right hand drive, allowing us to sell it in Australia,” Hyundai Australia's Chief Operating Officer John Elsworth says.

“This high-tech machine is the ideal showcase for what Hyundai can do, and is a superbly-engineered car, fit to rival the best from Europe at a substantially more accessible price point."

Hyundai will reveal full pricing and spec details closer to the Genesis sedan’s arrival later this year.
