Renault teases new "global SUV" ahead of Moscow Motor Show reveal

The moody teaser image reveals... well, not much

Renault will whip the covers off a new “global” SUV at the Moscow Motor Show in August, releasing a mysterious teaser image of the brand’s new C-segment crossover.

The French brand is so far keeping details tightly under wraps, but we’re expecting a coupe-style crossover based on the Captur SUV that will commence production in Russia before expanding to Renault plants around the world.

The dark and moody photo reveals… well, not much. But what appears to be a low-slung roofline and a muscular grille do stoke the sporty-styled coupe fires.

The big question for Australia, of course, is just how global is “global”, but with Renault in Australia pushing to expand its imported SUV range, it must be a strong chance for a local debut.

Renault executives here have made no secret of the fact their growth strategy will focus on more SUVs - including a push to introduce the intenational-only Kadjar that would sit between the city-sized Captur and larger Koleas - and so a new C-segment SUV would fit with that plan perfectly.

On the subject of the new SUV's potential sale locally, Renault Australia managing director, Andrew Moore, told CarsGuide, “Australia has a strong SUV market and we believe there is opportunity to increase Renault’s SUV presence in the future.  We are reviewing this new crossover and we are currently discussing it with the factory.”
