Jeep aiming to be 'leading electrified SUV brand in the world' with four new electric cars by 2025

Australian availability for any of Jeep’s new EV models is yet to be confirmed.

Jeep has announced it plans to become the world’s leading electric SUV brand as it reveals three new electric cars, with a fourth on the way by 2025.

The plan includes the pursuit of making 100 per cent of its sales in Europe electric, and 50 per cent electric sales in the US by 2030 in line with parent company Stellantis’ long-term ‘Dare Forward 2030’ plan. In addition, Jeep aims to sell only electrified models in almost all European countries by the end of 2022.

To make this a reality, the brand has revealed three electric models, launching as soon as early 2023 in some markets.

The earliest to arrive in Europe will be the Jeep Avenger - the brand’s first dedicated EV which borrows its badge from the twice-born and twice-killed Dodge Avenger.

The Avenger, a small SUV unrelated to the Marvel cinematic universe, will debut with more details and specifications at the Paris Motor Show on October 17. In the meantime, Jeep says the Europe-focused Avenger will have a range target of 400km and will be produced at the Tychy plant in Poland.

Jeep claims the Avenger boasts impressive capability in terms of ground clearance and both breakover and approach angles for its segment. The small SUV is also confirmed for South Korea and Japan - signifying right-hand-drive production and a potential for the Australian market.

Set to arrive later in 2024 for North America is the Jeep Recon (pictured, top main), an all-electric off-roader that clearly draws on the Wrangler in terms of style and, Jeep hopes, ability.

“The all-new, all-electric Jeep Recon has the capability to cross the mighty Rubicon Trail, one of the most challenging off-road trails in the US, and reach the end of the trail with enough range to drive back to town and recharge,” said Jeep CEO Christian Meunier.

Like the Wrangler, the Recon features removable doors and glass to avoid damage during body flexing, plus off-road-focused tow hooks, underbody protection, and traction management.

In a similar timeframe to the Recon, the brand will introduce a more road-based fully electric Jeep Wagoneer. Following more closely in the footsteps of the Cherokee, the Wagoneer will have an intended range of 644km (400 miles), with 441kW and a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds.

Finally, one more model is yet to be announced, though further details could be forthcoming at next week’s Detroit Motor Show.

Here in Australia, there’s no official word from the brand’s local arm regarding timing or availability, so local hopefuls should keep an eye out for news regarding Jeep’s EVs reaching Australia.
