Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition 2019 suits up; here in March

Hyundai's Marvel-themed Kona is all suited up and ready to rumble, with the Iron Man Edition to hit dealers in March.

The Iron Man Edition is based on the top-spec Kona Highlander model, and Hyundai has committed to bringing 400 units to Australia, with cars touching down within weeks. Expect to pay $39,990 (MSRP), with the brand's 1.6-litre engine and seven-speed DCT gearbox the only drivetrain combination available.

Tony Stark's (admittedly make-believe) finger prints are all over the Iron Man Kona, including an autograph on the dashboard. That matt-grey paint work (the only colour on offer) is contrasted by a roof painted in “Iron Man Red”, too, and the wheels are “Iron Grip” 18-inch alloys.

There are Iron Man emblems on the front wings, and two more that are illuminated by the puddle lighting when you first unlock the car, as well as two Stark Industries logos in front of the rear tyres.

There’s an Iron Man bezel on the bonnet, a logo on the key fob and even the LED DRLs have been reshaped to look like the lights in Tony Stark’s helmet.

Inside, the seats are embossed with the Stark Industries logo, with Iron Man himself imprinted on the backrests. When you turn the key, the instrument cluster and tachometer both use Iron Man’s Arc Reactor as a background screen.

The Kona range has always had a strong identity with its expressive styling and choice of vibrant exterior colours, but the Kona Iron Man Edition takes this a step further with its audacious Iron Man inspired looks and tech equipment,” says Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, JW Lee.

“With only 400 cars coming to Australia, the Kona Iron Man Edition will be a unique ownership experience, combining the Kona’s style, technology and performance with a slice of superhero fun.”

Elsewhere, the Kona Iron Man Edition gets auto LED headlights and taillights, keyless entry and an 8.0-inch touchscreen with nav. Safety-wise, expect forward collision warning with AEB, blind-spot warning, lane keep assist and rear cross-traffic alert as standard.
