I have a 2012 VW Passat with the DSG gearbox, which shudders when taking off up hill or going around a corner. It appears as though it is dropping from first to second gear too soon and loading up the clutch and hence it shudders. This only happens between first and second. If I drive in manual mode then it does not happen. Have VW Australia got a recall for this problem and year model of my car? Long term does it mean that we will have problems?
The most likely cause of the shudder are the clutches, which probably need to be replaced. It doesn't mean you will have long-term issues with the gearbox, but you could be up for replacing the clutches regularly.
