I’m considering either a VW Passat CC diesel wagon or a Skoda diesel wagon. It will be my first auto transmission after 32 years of driving and I would like to know whether the DSG gearbox is any good? I hear stories that the sealed ones are okay because the earlier maintainable ones were given a bad name due to people not changing the fluid. I’d also like to know whether the DSG box ‘hunts’ to find gears at times in the cars I’m looking at.
The DSG is a brilliant idea, but it was affected by a couple of issues that soured the experience for a lot of owners. The latest DSG is not affected by the problems of the older units; there have been a lot of improvements made to overcome the issues it had. You can buy one with confidence.
