Order of service

I HAVE a dilemma regarding the servicing of my 2006 Honda Accord, which has only done 15,000km. The owner's manual states the car should be serviced at a set number of kilometres, or every six months, ``whichever is soonest''. When I take it to my Honda dealer for service I am told that even though the time period is correct it is unnecessary for the set mileage service to be carried out so we only need to do a ``supplementary'' 20,000km service. Should I be concerned the service for two years has not been done or is the dealer correct in saying that he only needs to do the service the mileage requires? A Honda rep at the Melbourne Motor Show last year advised me the service should be carried out on a whichever-is-sooner basis, but I don't seem to be able to convince my dealer.

I CONTACTED Honda head office for the answer and they told us: ``The Honda maintenance schedule requires the Accord to be serviced every six months or 10,000km, whichever occurs first. It is acceptable, however, for the dealer to tailor some maintenance items to suit if the vehicle travels an unusually low distance within the time period. For example, the engine oil should be changed as it will degrade.''
