This AMC Hornet is up for auction, but there's a twist

James Bond's cars are among the most well-known in pop culture thanks to some truly epic car chases. One of the stars of these chases is now up for sale next week in America.

The AMC Hornet was used for an iconic corkscrew jump across a Thai river in the 1974 film The Man With The Golden Gun, and it became legend thanks to no computer-generated wizardry being used to film it – yes the producers actually spiral-jumped a car over a river with a stuntman behind the wheel!

The stunt was the brain-child of American stuntman Jay Milligan who had perfected the amazing feat some years before for his stunt show, and then sold the rights to the Bond producers for the upcoming movie.

The heavily modified AMC muscle car features a centre-mounted steering, a full roll cage and cut-away front wheel arches. As the jump was done successfully in just one take the car presents in excellent condition and Auctions America expect it to reach $250,000-$350,000 (USD) when it sells.
