Motor show oversubscribed

AIMS will be the first major motor show in Australia since the Melbourne event in March 2009 and the first in Sydney for two years. AIMS Director Russ Tyrie says support for this year’s show has been so strong that he and his team have had a tough task meeting each brand’s request for floor space.

“This will be one of the best-supported shows on record and is a real boost for the automotive industry,” says Tyrie.  “Everyone on the AIMS committee is gratified with the overwhelming confidence and support the industry has shown in wanting to make this the best show possible.

“Major motor shows around the world have taken a battering in recent years, with many major brands choosing not to exhibit, so we are really proud that our local industry has shown such strong support.  It is true we are slightly oversubscribed on space, but it is a nice problem to have and we are working well with all the brands to try and meet their particular requirements.”

Tyrie confirmed he was in the final stages of discussions with a handful of brands and said the show’s full line-up would be announced in the near future.

“The response we have had from the brands highlights how well the industry is recovering and confirms AIMS as the premier motor show in the southern hemisphere,” says Tyrie.  AIMS has also launched its official website – www.motorshow.com.au – which will be updated regularly in the lead-up to the show.

The 2010 show will be the first under a new joint-venture between the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) and the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC) that will see the show alternate each year between Sydney and Melbourne.

The show will be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour from 15-24 October.
