Peugeot 308 sets fuel record

Peugeot's new PureTech 3-cylinder e-THP petrol engine averaged an impressive 2.37L/100km.

With the 308's new PureTech e-THP three-cylinder petrol engine on board, the 2014 European Car Of The Year winner averaged 2.37L/100km and travelled a total distance of 1810km on a single tank of fuel during an economy test – both are new records for a production car.

The test was conducted at the Almeria circuit in Spain with the UTAC (Union Technique de l'Automobile, Motocycle et Cycle) authority present to witness the achievement. The car, equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox, was driven for over 32 hours by several drivers, such was the duration of this test.

The vehicle used for the economy run was identical to the Peugeot 308 1.2 e-THP 130 that customers can now purchase in Europe. The model's combination of a high-pressure direct injection system and a high performance turbocharger used with a small displacement three-cylinder engine represents a significant technological breakthrough, according to Peugeot.

The 308 is also the lightest vehicle in its class - which includes cars like the VW Golf and Ford Focus – further enhancing the engine's efficiency and performance capabilities.
