Europe's most popular car, the Panda high-riding hatch is expected down under as early as September this year, with the 4x4 version expected a further six months aftr that.
Panda achived notoriety in 2008 when Fiat successfully sued China's Great Wall brand for copying the design which it called the Peri.
The Chinese then counter sued for what it described as industrial espionage. Nothing like a bit of publicity to drive up sales. Panda is larger than the Fiat 500 but smaller than soon to be reinstrodiced Punto.
Fiat is yet to confirm the local model lineup or drivetrains for that matter, but overseas the car is available with the revolutinary turbocharged 900cc Twinair engine.
There's also a conventional 1.2 litre four cylinder petrol engine and a 1.3-litre turbodiesel - the latter has been seen here previously in Punto.
The Twinair promises fuel consumption in the order of 3.5 litres/100km. Prices for the new Panda are expected to kick off at under $20,000.
