Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe spy shots

The compact coupe is a new development on the Mercedes-Benz C-Class line and will effectively take the place of the CLC two-door. The difference, reflected in Carparazzi spy pictures from Europe, is that the new car is a true coupe and not just a hatchback C-Class.

It's a similar take to the work on the E-Class line which has created a two-door coupe from the basic sedan, as well as a convertible. There is no word yet on a droptop C-Coupe, but plans are moving quickly on the car and it should be in showrooms by the middle of 2011.

It is expected to be well priced but Mercedes-Benz Australia will not comment at all on the car. But the company admits the CLC dies soon.

"The CLC basically finishes at the end of the year, we'll have run out of stock," says company spokesman, David McCarthy. "It's been a huge success. We've averaged 100 cars a month, and it's been on the wait list for quite a while."

McCarthy rejects any suggestion that the CLC has only sold because of its bargain starting price, currently listed from $50,900.

"Most of the sales have been the mid-level car in the mid-$50,000s. As soon as one comes up they are snapped up."

Carparazzi pictures of the upcoming C Coupe show a car which is identical to the four-door sedan to the windscreen, with a very different look to the sides and tail end. There is still some camouflage but the shape of the rear windows is clear, and the boot outline is also clear.
