2022 Genesis GV80 price and features: BMW X5, Audi Q7 rival gains six-seat option, new features and price increase

The updated 2022 Genesis GV80 cops a price increase but gains some new features.

Luxury brand Genesis has added a plush six-seat option to its flagship GV80 SUV as part of a model year 2022 update.

The update brings with it price increases across the range as well as a boost in standard specification and a new colour option.

The six-seat captain’s chair is available on all GV80 all-wheel drive variants as part of the 6-seat Luxury Package and adds $13,500 to the price.

It’s the first premium large SUV available in Australia with a six-seat option, although Mazda sells a six-seat version of its similarly sized CX-9.

The package includes two individual second-row seats with a power slide function and one-touch ‘rest’ mode, a second-row armrest with a wireless smartphone charger, two cupholders, storage and a Genesis Integrated Controller to operate the screens.

A pair of 9.2-inch high-definition touchscreens with dual headphone jacks and USB outlets are mounted on the rear of the front seatbacks, and the package also includes extra ambient cabin lighting.

Genesis offers another Luxury Package on all variants for $10,500, and for model year 2022 that gains 18-way power adjustable passenger seat with ‘Ergo-motion’ functionality, matching the driver’s seat.

The Luxury Package already includes a lengthy list of extras, such as heated and ventilated second-row seats, heated steering wheel, three-zone climate control, quilted Nappa leather interior, a power second and third-row seats, soft-close doors and more.

New standard features across the range for 2022 include an upgraded front brake package featuring 380mm discs and four-piston calipers previously reserved for the top-spec 3.5T.

It now features a new Intelligent Speed Limit Assist and Recirculation Model Plus functions, and graphics updates to the nav map and other safety icons.

In the rear, the GV80 now has unlock as well as lock functionality for the rear doors, and there’s a more functional cupholder design.

A new Barossa Burgundy gloss colour has been added to the palette that includes seven gloss and three matte colour options.

The GV80 range continues to be offered with three engine choices, starting with the 224kW/422Nm 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine in rear (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) guise, a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel AWD pumping out 204kW/588Nm and the flagship AWD 279kW/530Nm 3.5-litre turbocharged petrol V6.

All variants are mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing on all grades has increased by $1524 over the equivalent 2021 model except the 3.5T which is up by $1024.

Pricing now kicks off at $92,000 before on-road costs for the 2.5T RWD, moving up to $97,000 for the 2.5T AWD, $105,000 for the 3.0D AWD and topping out at $109,500 for the 3.5T AWD.

This pricing still undercuts key European rivals like the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE, and is similarly positioned to the Volvo XC90 ($86,990-$116,900).

Other rivals include the Volkswagen Touareg, Lexus RX, Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover Velar.

Standard safety equipment in the 2.5T FWD includes, a five-star ANCAP rating, 10 airbags, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist protection, a junction function and evasive steering assist function, as well as lane keep assist and centring, driver attention warning, an active bonnet, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist and adaptive cruise control with stop and go.

Luxuries include leather-appointed dashboard, panoramic sunroof, open pore real wood trim, power tailgate, a 14.5-inch multimedia system with augmented reality navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a 21-speaker premium audio system.

The GV80 was the first of a fresh wave of Genesis models to feature its signature design language, launching in late 2020. The refreshed GV80 is on sale now.
