New Genesis GV80 2021 pricing and spec detailed: Luxury Korean SUV handily undercuts BMW X5 and Audi Q7

Genesis Australia’s first SUV, the GV80, will undercut its German rivals by as much as $14,490 when it lands in local showrooms in October in four flavours.

Starting from $90,600 before on-road costs for the base 2.5T, the GV80 entry point is – as its name suggests – powered by a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, outputting 224kW/422Nm to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

An all-wheel-drive version, creatively called 2.5T AWD can also be had, upping pricing to $95,600 and seating capacity from five to seven.

For those after diesel power, the 3.0D AWD is available for $103,600, and punches out 204kW/588Nm from a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel to all four corners, while the flagship GV80 at launch will be the $108,600 3.5T AWD powered by a potent 279kW/530Nm 3.5-litre turbo-petrol V6.

Both the 3.0D AWD and 3.5T AWD are available exclusively with three-row seating, while also nabbing an adaptive control suspension system that scans the road ahead to prepare each wheel for upcoming bumps, as well as an electro-mechanical limited slip differential.

As with all Genesis models, the GV80 underwent Australian-market chassis and suspension tuning to tailor the vehicle to local conditions.

Standard equipment includes 20-inch wheels shod in Michelin rubber, in-cabin mood lighting, leather interior, wood-finished trim, panoramic sunroof, power-operated tailgate, 12.0-inch head-up display, 12-way power adjustable front seats with heating and cooling, remote start, wireless smartphone charger, and 21-speaker sound system.

Handling multimedia duties is a 14.5-inch touchscreen with augmented reality satellite navigation, digital radio and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.

A four-option drive-mode selector is also standard, incorporating Eco, Comfort, Sport and Custom settings, in addition to Snow, Mud and Sand.

In the safety department, each GV80 comes fitted with 10 airbags (including a front centre side airbag mandatory in 2020 for a five-star ANCAP safety rating), as well as the Genesis ‘Active Safety Control’ suite that includes forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, highbeam assist, rear cross-traffic alert, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), blind-spot monitoring and surround-view monitor.

Aside from engine changes in the 3.0D AWD and 3.5T AWD, the two more expensive variants also score 22-inch wheels.

A ‘Luxury Package’ is available to all four grades, priced at $10,000, that bundles Nappa leather interior, 12.3-inch digital instrumentation, tri-zone climate control, soft-close doors and 18-way power adjustable driver’s seat with massage function.

Eight mica/metallic finish exterior paint colours are available as standard, but three matte colours are available for an extra $2000.

Like all Genesis vehicles in Australia, the GV80 comes with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, which also covers roadside assist and free scheduled servicing over that time.
