G-up! 2024 Genesis G80 sedan scores facelift to take on Mercedes-Benz E-Class and new BMW 5 Series, confirmed for Australia

Genesis has revealed images and details of its facelifted halo sedan, the G80, which will launch globally next year as the “first model change in nearly four years”.

Already confirmed for Australia, though with pricing and specifications still to be locked in, the facelifted Genesis G80 looks quite similar to the current version from the outside, with notable tech changes for the interior.

Arriving in Australia in mid-2024, the facelifted sedan will feature smoother and simpler styling elements under the brand’s ‘Athletic Elegance’ design language.

From the outside, the biggest changes are that the grille now sports a ‘dual-mesh’ insert with double-lines through the crest, while the grille flanks underneath have also been redesigned. Above that, the split headlights now also feature MLAs (Micro Lens Arrays).

At the rear, V-shaped chrome trim covers diffusers with hidden mufflers and exhaust exits, which Genesis says aims to portray “an eco-friendly aspect of the sedan in the age of electrification”.

On that, Genesis hasn’t confirmed anything regarding drivetrains yet - the G80 currently sports either a turbocharged 2.5-litre petrol four-cylinder engine with 224kW and 422Nm driving the rear wheels, a 3.5-litre V6 with 279kW/530Nm driving all four wheels, or an AWD electric drivetrain with 272kW and 700Nm.

Inside, however, some updates (most visibly a new 27-inch dual-screen display for the instrument cluster and multimedia) bring the G80 back to the front of the brand (and its siblings Hyundai and Kia) in terms of plush tech.

Genesis has also added a touch-based climate control screen, however, removing much of the physical buttons for temperature and vent control.

Currently, the Genesis G80 starts from  $85,670 before on-roads in Australia, with the Electrified G80 from $145,675.
