ICON 4x4's Jon Ward has made a name for himself by taking cool old cars and packing as much brand new technology under the skin, all while leaving the outside as it was.

While most of his builds feature late-model fuel-injected and supercharged V8s his latest, a 1949 Mercury Coupe, debuted at SEMA without any internal combustion under the rotund bonnet.

Along with a custom chassis to help improve handling, Ward's team at ICON installed 85kWh worth (or 400hp in the old money) of Tesla batteries in the shape of a V8 engine and then added cool custom finned covers to hide the lot. The Merc might look barn-fresh but it also packs A/C, power windows (operated by the original manual cranks), digital gauges and more!
