This Citroen 2CV has been given the Picasso treatment

The Citroen 2CV is a very recognisable classic car – known as the umbrella on wheels by some European car enthusiasts. It was a car built with a purpose – to be affordable, economical and reliable for the driver.

Andy Saunders is a British mechanic and artist who has built more than forty custom cars – all with incredibly unique design styling combined with creative artistic flair. This includes custom projects with names like "Mentally Insane” and “Claustro Phobia” to name just a couple.

“Picasso’s Citroen” definitely caught our eye, inspired by some of Pablo Picasso’s famous artwork. "I decided to blur the line between car design and art by using Picasso as inspiration” said Andy "I’ve studied Picasso and noticed that he used mainly primary colours and I've stuck with that palette for the car.”

First seen at the 2007 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the car is driveable – but only legally in the daytime – due to the non-standard headlight fitting and positioning. “I made all the new parts and have distorted the whole car so the more you look at it the more peculiar it becomes. It hasn't lost any of its speed - it can still reach around 65mph!” says Andy.
