Top 10 car reviews of 2020

As far as car reviews go, 2020 was another huge year at CarsGuide.

Despite being a challenging year that for periods of time (some extended) stopped us from testing cars in order to bring you reviews you’re interested in, 2020 ended up being another huge year here at CarsGuide.

Once again, we published more than one review per day, on average. In fact, by the time the year was out, we had published about 500, with some naturally more popular than others.

That said, it genuinely took us by surprise that our highest-clicking review for 2020 was CarsGuide’s dash cam comparison. It didn’t make this list, though, because it’s not about a car. So, without further ado, here are our top-10 car reviews from the year that was.

01. 10. Nissan Patrol 2020 review: Ti off-road

The facelifted Nissan Patrol may have arrived back in November 2019, but that didn’t stop our off-road review of the upper-large SUV’s Ti flagship published in September 2020 from doing big things. Simply put, there’s always plenty of interest in this model.

02. 9. MG3 2020 review

The maturing MG3 hatchback is now the most popular light car on sale, so it’s no surprise our review of its range from June 2020 was among the highest clicked. And believe it or not, this test nearly didn’t happen. In fact, it took years to make it a reality…

03. 8. Volkswagen Tiguan 2020 review

Although the Volkswagen Tiguan mid-size SUV is due for its midlife facelift in the second quarter of 2021, our review of the current model’s range published in April 2020 made some serious waves. Interestingly, it’s an example of our new FAQ format.

04. 7. MG ZS 2020 review

Another MG! This time it’s the ageing ZS small SUV, which didn’t prove too elusive to test. Our review of its range from May 2020 was not only even more successful, but also another example of the new FAQ format, with interest clearly high.

05. 6. Volkswagen T-Cross 2020 review

And now a second Volkswagen! Unlike its aforementioned sibling, the T-Cross light SUV was a newcomer, with our launch review of its range published in May 2020 proving to be a smash-hit. It’s no surprise, then, the model hit the ground running.

Justin Hilliard
Head of Editorial
Justin’s dad chose to miss his birth because he wanted to watch Peter Brock hopefully win Bathurst, so it figures Justin grew up to have a car obsession, too – and don’t worry, his dad did turn up in time after some stern words from his mum. That said, despite loving cars and writing, Justin chose to pursue career paths that didn’t lend themselves to automotive journalism, before eventually ending up working as a computer technician. But that car itch just couldn’t be scratched by his chipped Volkswagen Golf R (Mk7), so he finally decided to give into the inevitable and study a Master of Journalism at the same time. And even with the long odds, Justin was lucky enough to land a full-time job as a motoring journalist soon after graduating and the rest, as they say, is history. These days, Justin happily finds himself working at CarsGuide during the biggest period of change yet for the automotive industry, which is perhaps the most exciting part of all. In case you’re wondering, Justin begrudgingly sold the Golf R (sans chip) and still has plans to buy his dream car, an E46 BMW M3 coupe (manual, of course), but he is in desperate need of a second car space – or maybe a third.
