Top 10 car reviews of 2020

As far as car reviews go, 2020 was another huge year at CarsGuide.

Despite being a challenging year that for periods of time (some extended) stopped us from testing cars in order to bring you reviews you’re interested in, 2020 ended up being another huge year here at CarsGuide.

Once again, we published more than one review per day, on average. In fact, by the time the year was out, we had published about 500, with some naturally more popular than others.

That said, it genuinely took us by surprise that our highest-clicking review for 2020 was CarsGuide’s dash cam comparison. It didn’t make this list, though, because it’s not about a car. So, without further ado, here are our top-10 car reviews from the year that was.

10. Nissan Patrol 2020 review: Ti off-road

The facelifted Nissan Patrol may have arrived back in November 2019, but that didn’t stop our off-road review of the upper-large SUV’s Ti flagship published in September 2020 from doing big things. Simply put, there’s always plenty of interest in this model.

9. MG3 2020 review

The maturing MG3 hatchback is now the most popular light car on sale, so it’s no surprise our review of its range from June 2020 was among the highest clicked. And believe it or not, this test nearly didn’t happen. In fact, it took years to make it a reality…

8. Volkswagen Tiguan 2020 review

Although the Volkswagen Tiguan mid-size SUV is due for its midlife facelift in the second quarter of 2021, our review of the current model’s range published in April 2020 made some serious waves. Interestingly, it’s an example of our new FAQ format.

7. MG ZS 2020 review

Another MG! This time it’s the ageing ZS small SUV, which didn’t prove too elusive to test. Our review of its range from May 2020 was not only even more successful, but also another example of the new FAQ format, with interest clearly high.

6. Volkswagen T-Cross 2020 review

And now a second Volkswagen! Unlike its aforementioned sibling, the T-Cross light SUV was a newcomer, with our launch review of its range published in May 2020 proving to be a smash-hit. It’s no surprise, then, the model hit the ground running.

5. Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2020 review: GLS off-road

The facelifted Mitsubishi Pajero Sport may have gone on sale in January 2020, but it was our off-road review of the entry-level GLS grade from March 2020 that had the most interest, with readers interested in whether the large SUV’s changes were more than metal deep.

4. Ford Everest 2020 review: Sport 4x4

Expect the new Everest to hit the market by the end of 2022 or early in 2023.

The Ford Everest large SUV added some more style in November 2019 when its new murdered-out Sport grade was introduced, with our family review of it published in May 2020 getting plenty of eyes, most hoping to find out if it was a jack of all trades.

3. Toyota LandCruiser 76 Series wagon 2020 review

The LandCruiser 76 Series remains one of the few true-blue and tough 4WD wagons available. (Image credit: Marcus Craft)

It mightn’t look like it, but the Toyota LandCruiser 76 Series wagon was updated in August 2020, with our adventure review of large SUV’s GXL flagship from September 2020 performing well enough to earn itself a podium finish.

2. Toyota Prado 2020 review: GXL off-road

The Toyota Prado is a very capable off-roader for something so well suited to suburbia.

The Toyota Prado large SUV may have been given a significant update in August 2020, but it was actually our adventure review of the pre-update model’s mid-range GXL variant published in March 2020 that did enough to take home the silver medal.

1. Isuzu MU-X 2020 review: LS-T long term

And the winner is the Isuzu MU-X large SUV! Our long-term review of its LS-T flagship from March 2020 took the chocolates in what was a bit of a surprise result, especially considering a new-generation model is due in late 2021.
