Nissan Navara 2009: Broken air con

The air conditioning packed up in my 2009 Nissan Navara in July. The dealer says that they cannot source parts to fix it, and that there are Navaras all over the place in the same predicament. Apparently Nissan cannot supply replacement parts because of problems related to switching manufacturing from Spain to Thailand. Nissan Australia is no help at all. Should I be contacting a lawyer? What is the manufacturer's obligation in relation to the provision of spares? All I want is for my $45,000 car to work properly. Interested to read other comments in regard to the appalling lack of care exhibited by Nissan Australia. This is the last one of their cars I will ever buy.

I don’t buy the story that the problem is due to switching manufacturing from Europe to Thailand, they’ve been building D40 Navaras in Thailand for a couple of years now. The general rule of thumb was that manufacturers would maintain spares for 10 years after a model has left production, but with changes to the way they do things they appear to be cutting things very fine. I would keep the pressure up on the company, through the dealer and direct, and certainly have a solicitor send them a letter.
