2023 Lexus LS scores tech overhaul - and higher price - in update

Lexus has given its upper-large luxury sedan, the LS, an overhaul in the tech department for 2023, adding new features to the multimedia and overall safety systems.

The 2023 Lexus LS also now has a slightly higher price, though its added cost is refreshingly minor given the already high price of the sedan, which now starts at $195,920 before on-road costs, up from its old price by only $899.

The changes to the Lexus LS are the same across the range, with the four variants split up into two drivetrains with two trim options each: both hybrid and non-hybrid can be had in either ‘entry level’ F Sport or more luxe F Sport Luxury.

The most affordable of the four variants, at the aforementioned $195,920 price, is now the fully petrol-powered LS 500 F Sport, as opposed to the hybrid 500h F Sport version which was previously cheaper, but now starts from $197,190 thanks to a price increase of $3442.

The two F Sport Luxury variants both now crack the $200,000 barrier, with the petrol version up by $894 to a new price of $201,040, while the LS500h F Sport Luxury now takes over as the most expensive with a $202,320 asking price, up $3447 from its old price.

All four versions of the Lexus LS now have an expanded suite of multimedia features, including wireless Apple CarPlay alongside wired Android Auto, a new 12.3-inch touchscreen, and a voice control ‘Hey Lexus’ system which can be activated with spoken prompts or through a steering wheel button.

The touchscreen also removes the need for the haptic trackpad previously found in the centre console, which is now gone.

A new Lexus Multimedia Connect feature allows the Lexus app to link with the LS’s multimedia system to keep updated information on traffic, weather, parking and map updates, while the app can check the car’s lock status, or remotely start the car's engine.

Mechanically, the LS remains the same with the petrol version powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 making 310kW and 600Nm, while the hybrid drivetrain’s 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6 produces 264kW and 350Nm with the assistance of its electric hybrid system.
