Thousands of 2021-2023 Ford Rangers and Everests recalled due to safety risk

Some Ranger and Everest models could shift into park if the battery levels get too low.

Ford's popular Ranger ute and Everest large SUV have been hit with a recall notice for a potential fault that could suddenly stop vehicles.

According to the ACCC, the fault is "due to a software issue" that could cause the affected cars to shift into park when travelling under 6km/h if the battery level dips below a "critical threshold".

This sudden stop would not illuminate the rear brake lights, which "could increase the potential risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users", the recall notice states.

In total, 4841 vehicles are affected in the call back, split between 1307 Everest models and 3534 Rangers sold between 2021 and 2023, which would include current- and previous-generation versions.

Affected owners will be contacted by Ford Australia in writing, otherwise a full list of vehicle identification numbers (VINs) can be found on the ACCC website, while repair work will be carried out at authorised dealerships free of charge.
