Takata recall: Skoda and Jaguar Land Rover confirm affected models

Czech brand Skoda and British carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) have revealed which models will be recalled as part of the wide-spread mandatory Takata airbag call back that affects around 2.7 million cars on Australian roads.

Skoda will recall 17,633 vehicles that will require the replacement of the driver's side airbag, with the 2013 Octavia mid-sizer making up the bulk of call backs on 8534.

Exactly 2657 examples of model year 2014-2015 Fabia light cars and 2262 units of the 2010 Yeti SUV are also in need of repair, as well as some versions of the 2016 Superb (2125), 2013 Rapid (1607), last year's Kodiaq seven-seat SUV (447) and just a single Roomster from 2013.

The 2009-2017 XF large sedan is also affected.

Concerned customers can find the list of affected vehicle identification numbers on Skoda Australia's website, which will be published shortly, or else they can call Skoda's customer experience contact centre.

Meanwhile, approximately 17,500 vehicles across Jaguar and Land Rover's stable will also need to be called back to replace potential faulty Takata airbag inflators.

Under the leaping cat brand, 2016-2017 model year XE mid-size sedans, 2009-2017 XF large sedan, and 2017 F-Pace SUVs are affected, but exact numbers are to be confirmed.

Land Rovers caught in the recall include the Range Rover Vogue from 2007-2012 and Discovery Sport from 2015-2017.

All vehicles recalled by the aforementioned brands are not fitted with 'alpha' airbags that have a 50 per cent chance of shooting shrapnel into the cabin on deployment.

The announcement of the recalls come after the Australian government legislated a compulsory call back of all Takata-affected vehicles last week, with all repair work to be completed by the end of 2020.
