Lamborghini Urus helps double the brand's sales in 2019

Lamborghini's SUV has launched to great success.

Somewhat unsurprisingly spurred on by the brands new Urus “super SUV”, Lamborghini has increased its sales figures by 96% in the first half of 2019.

The Urus shot to the top of the Raging Bull’s sales tally, moving a whopping 2693 units out of the brand’s six-month global grand total of 4553 cars.

The brand also managed to sell 1211 Huracans and 649 examples of the ageing V12 Aventador.

The Urus has helped the Italian supercar maker buck the general downward trend of auto sales worldwide, increasing 128 per cent in the US. According to VFACTS, Lamborghini has sold 94 units in Australia, representing a 44.6 per cent gain year-to-date - and 49 of those units were SUVs, although the Audi Q8 with which it shares its VW Group MLB Evo platform has managed to move 211 units in the same time period.

The $390,000 Urus is claimed to be the “fastest SUV in the world” and is motivated by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 478kW/850Nm. It is claimed do 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds, good for a top-speed of 305km/h.

Lamborghini pins continued Aventador sales on its wild SVJ variant revealed last year, despite being limited to 900 units. The SVJ doesn’t have official pricing in Australia, although the only other variant sold here – the S – comes in at $789,809, almost making the Urus look like a bargain.

While details are light on the ground, the Urus could have competition on its hands when Ferrari launches its own super SUV, dubbed the Purosangue.
