SsangYong Australia has released the facelifted version of its current Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Isuzu MU-X, Ford Everest, Toyota Fortuner and LDV D90 challenger, the second-generation Rexton large SUV.
The entry-level EX variant has not carried over, meaning the Rexton is no longer available with a 165kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with rear-wheel drive and a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
For reference, a revised 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 148kW/441Nm (+15kW/21Nm) is now standard in the mid-range ELX and flagship Ultimate versions alongside a part-time four-wheel-drive system with low range and a rear differential lock.
This combination is mated to a new eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, which replaces the old seven-speed unit that was sourced from Mercedes-Benz.
As such, the Rexton line-up no longer starts from $39,990 driveaway. Instead, it now kicks off at $47,990, with the ELX up $1000 for MY21, while the Ultimate has become $2000 more expensive, at $54,990.
As reported, the Rexton’s facelift ushers in Trailer Sway Control, a redesigned front fascia, including new LED headlights, grille and bumpers, as well as tweaked body cladding, fresh alloy wheels and tweaked LED tail-lights.
Inside, the Rexton now has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a wireless smartphone charger (Ultimate only), dual Bluetooth connectivity, an overhead console and seven seatbelt reminders as well as a redesigned gear selector and steering wheel (with paddle-shifters).
Other standard equipment in the ELX includes 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, push-button start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, power-adjustable front seats with heating and cooling, heated rear seats and artificial leather upholstery.
Advanced driver-assist systems extend to autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, manual cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, and tyre pressure monitoring.
The Ultimate adds speed-sensitive steering, 20-inch alloy wheels, touch-sensitive front door-handles, a power-operated tailgate, a sunroof, a heated steering wheel, memory functionality, ‘premium’ leather upholstery, ambient lighting and surround-view cameras.
Like all SsangYong models, the Rexton comes with a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, seven years of roadside assistance and a seven-year/120,000km capped-price servicing plan in Australia.
